Love is in the Air

Did I have the best Valentine's Day or what? Valentine's is usually a non-event in our house and this year wasn't promising to look any different. Fifteen years of marriage has taught me not to expect anything on the Hallmark holiday. (we do every other holiday big) We even said to each other last week, "we're not doing Valentine's, right?" So my expectations were ZERO.

Before you write my husband and myself off as cranky unromantics, understand that between Christmas and our January anniversary we spend all of our fun money. We're tapped by February, hoping to save up for the first kid's birthday in April. I'll sometimes make a nice meal and light a couple of candles, but it doesn't typically get too much more exciting. Chris will occasionally bring home a bouquet of roses.

Last night was the height of low expectations, if I may be allowed to say it thus. I take two of the kids to Tae Kwon Do on Wednesday nights and don't get home till eight o'clock, with Chris not getting home for dinner till after I've left with the kids. So surely the evening was a bust? Granted, I was charmed and pleased when FedEx delivered a box with a bouquet of tulips and a box of chocolates after lunch. What a beautiful surprise from my loving husband! Already it was a wonderful Valentine's Day. What I didn't expect was to come home from Tae Kwon Do and find my bath and bedroom lit to the hilt with candles and a warm bath drawn. The ultimate in romance for me. So relaxing. So sweet. Beautiful. I fell in love all over again.

I'm looking forward to the rest of a lifetime with this man. And if you'll excuse me, it's time make dinner. He'll be home in a bit and I need to light some candles ...

Until I write again ...

Flea
