Firsts

Living in Tulsa is a series of firsts, all of which I'm doing my best to embrace. A couple of months ago we all visited our new dentist. One of the hygienists recognized us from church. At the optometrist there were pictures with scripture everywhere. It's a strange, unfamiliar world to which we've moved. I could get used to this.

Yesterday was our first visit to the doctor here, and the boys' first visit to a doctor who's not a pediatrician AND is a woman. We all really liked her. And on the paperwork was the question (right near the top) Which church do you attend? How bizarre. I guess that's why the doc didn't hesitate to recommend a good Christian school for the kids.

Another fun first is the decision to finally take Than to a doctor for an ADHD evaluation. I go next week to get myself back to the ADD meds, before I go out of my mind. The new doctor actually talked with me about it like a civilized human being.

And the orthodontist! We love the orthodontist. We had two consultations before he'd schedule the brace replacement. He was sweet and thorough and I never once felt like he was looking down on me.

I guess that sums up my Tulsa experience. No one is condescending. In Florida I felt as though all of the professional people were snotty. Across the board. Yet another reason to fall madly in love with where I live. Embracing here isn't so hard when here is Tulsa.

Until I write again ...

That sounds really good. I'm going to have to go through that soon. I hope they are nice like that here. In Dallas, our professional people were all "busy" except for our dentist. It was always hurry up and wait then here's a pill and see you later. :(

Exactly! It drove me nuts! Like I was privileged to see that doctor. Our dentist was good, but I'm amazed at how much better this one is.

Hope you find good medical people there. Or go to LSU and let students experiment on you. :)

Ugh, no. The students are worse because they think they know more than the "old fogey" docs. Remind me to tell you about it sometime.
