Creepy

I saw the creepiest thing yesterday, creepier than I've seen in a long time.

The kids and I went to the free summer movie at the Riverwalk, Happy Feet. I'm sure you've either seen it or seen the advertisement by now? Penguin can't sing,
wants to dance more than anything, outcast by his society, saves the penguins from certain doom. La la la. The sound track is great. The reviews weren't so great. I absolutely hated it.

The first half of the movie was just plain silly. The second half highly political. All of it extremely "done" and cliche'. There were even some very tense, terrifying parts, probably the only parts I liked. Seeing them on the big screen, I almost had the feeling of being on amusement park rides. Like the swinging pirate ship (which I hate, but go on every time), those parts made my heart leap into my throat and stay there. Very cool.

The penguins had black faces and dark, beady eyes. All but Mumble, the dancing penguin. He was voiced by Elijah Wood and the animators did a very good job of giving him Elijah Wood's big innocent blue eyes. I have always thought that Wood's eyes were slightly creepy, but seeing them on a penguin was downright WRONG. Creepy, creepy, creepy.

I'm done. Thank you for letting me get that off my chest. This is a reminder to me to pay attention to reviewers I trust. Ugh.

Until I write again ...

Whew! Glad I'm not the only one. I wasn't creeped out, just hated it and didn't see why it was hyped up so much. At least you didn't have to pay for it. Brandon and I recommended it for the nieces since we'd heard really good reviews on it. I think we're all sorry we went. :/

As for creepy, I had a want-to-gouge-my-eyes-out experience yesterday in traffic that I won't go into here, but definitely goes into the 'scarred for life' category. Ask by email if you want, but don't say I didn't warn you.

I think I'll ask! Was it a bad pre-birthday present?

Oh, now with a lead in like that, she HAS to post it here, so all us other commenters can hear about it!!!

And, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!! Sorry you didn't like the movie...but...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! *wipes eyes* Yeah, I never understood why he stayed all floofy and blue eyed...weird.

Can you believe that THAT movie won the Oscar for best animation? Over "Cars" by Pixar?!? Can you say "politicaaaaal" *singsong voice*

It won over Cars? Totally bogus!!!!! And yeah, I kept asking Oliver why he stayed fluffy. SOOOOOO LAME!!!!! And it was a political joke. Only children believe in the fairy tale it told - people stopping all of their offshore activities in the Antarctic because of dancing penguins. Puh-lease.

Cars was the best movie of the year, period.

I guess I'm desensitized to the 'save the world' stuff. I was upset about the dancing penguins vs. the "old, religious set-in-their ways penguins who were too narrow-minded to let anything new happen" arguement. >:(

And Flea can tell you about my horrid experience. You really don't want for me to post it here for all the world to see.

Yeah, i had a difficult time with the Religious Right and Loving Left too. I kept thinking that film makers must be stuck about 40 years back. Sad. And I think I agree about Cars, but I can't remember what else came out last summer. This year's gem was Spidey. 'Course, I haven't seen much this year ...
