I've thought quite a bit over the years about the women in my family. They're strong, sweet, funny, brilliant. And very Southern. There's a strong artistic streak, as well as a strong streak of melancholia. And no tie binds like family ties. They're mother bears. And they don't hesitate to pull you aside when you've screwed up, gently but firmly set you straight, and love you as fiercely as ever. I love the women in my family.
This last week we all converged at my grandmother's (see picture) and it was the perfect opportunity to observe the women, to interact, to enjoy thoroughly. I don't observe very well when I'm interacting, so I relied on Chris a good deal. He seemed to enjoy the family dynamic, involving himself in good conversations, good food and good fun. Getting to know everyone well.
This was my first Christmas with my family since college, and probably my best Christmas ever. My children's first Christmas ever with my family. It was rowdy and fun, crowded and chaotic. No one complained or whined. Everyone was ecstatic to be together. My grandmother came to life like she hasn't in years. A good time was had by all.
As a P.S.? My exuberant cousin was there with her handsome new husband and beautiful baby boy. I hogged the baby the entire time. It was good.
Until I write again ...

You forgot to mention the food! Gargantuan amounts of homemade Southern Cooking. Mmmmmmm.... I still haven't gotten that recipe for the Spinach Madeline, darn it!
That was the craziest, loudest, most fun Christmas I've had in a long, long time. I can't wait to do it again. Maybe the rest of us can hold the baby then. :p
Hey! My baby! I'm the oldest cousin, so I have rights and privileges. :) And the baby likes me best. Nyah!
Email Mary Anne for the spinach recipe.
Your family sounds absolutely delightful! Merry belated Christmas!
You are so blessed to have a large family and the women to help you! We live in a state away from our families. I've not had much mentoring from family women in my life, but the examples I used to have are very meaningful to me. Give each lady an extra hug just for being who they are! :)
You and Margo are right - this Christmas RAWKED! It was crazy and hectic, but Mr. Baby seemed to do alright, despite Flea getting him in her clutches! haha. Just kidding, I love you. I can't wait to do it again next Christmas!
