It's Great to be Me .. me .. meme

Jan Parrish, over at Bold & Free (I love that name) has tagged me for a meme. I know, I know, I said I wasn't going to do anymore for awhile, but this one is short and fun. And I'm going to preface it with a "stupid" update.

My Little Guy broke his glasses. AGAIN. Snapped the bridge of the nose clean in two. Friday during school. So I made an eye appointment for this morning, upset that we'll have to wait till Friday to actually get the glasses. And I just shelled out way too much money last fall for a new pair, after he broke his new ones. Grr.

So we get to the optometrist, fill out all the paperwork, only to find that our insurance won't pay for a new exam or glasses till March, which was when he had the last exam. Double grr.

Supremely frustrated, I took him down the street to the Neighborhood Walmart Marketplace and picked out a pair of $20 reading glasses, prescription 3.00. He puts them on, loves the funky black plastic frames, and says they're the perfect lenses. His prescription is very near 3.00 (it took him a long time to learn to read partly because the print was like tiny ants on the page). So all this time I could have been buying him cheap reading glasses from WalMart?!? I know, I know, he needs his prescription. And we'll see, after a couple of days in school, whether or not these cause him problems. But REALLY. I mean. Come on. Grr.

Alrighty then! Back to the meme. A simple one, it is, with the only rule being to list reasons why it's great to be me. :)

1. Because I'm a red head.
2. I have three of the greatest kids ever.
3. My husband beats all others, hands down (yes, it IS a competition).
4. God has blessed me with health, a nice home, two cars which work and food in my pantry.
5. I am blessed with two gorgeous dogs. Oh, and Lou the Loud.
6. Because I'm in grad school!
7. Because I have lots of great friends, including this online blogging community.
8. My wonderful extended family.
9. I am a the daughter of the King, a princess!

That's all I can think of right now, but it makes me feel better. You should try it. Go ahead, give it a whirl, even if you don't have a blog. Feels good.

Until I write again ...

dh found these great wire frames that were EXTREMELY bendable. You could wrap them around your finger like a pipe cleaner and they'd bouce right back into shape.

good luck w/the reading glasses.

Flea,

No need to even say please....you want the snow, you got it!! Where do I send it?

Hallie :-)

Oh Alison - the pair he just snapped were just like that! He thought it was a fun game to show people how bend-y they were. The reading glasses are thick plastic. Even if they snap, they won't go all wonky crooked like the metal ones tend to on my boys. They beat the crap out of their glasses.

Hallie - Tulsa, Oklahoma. South side of town. Pretty please. :)

And Alison, when I click on your name, it won't show me who you are, meaning I'd like to read your blog if you have one, but can't! Grr. Any help?

It sounds like maybe you ought to stick to the cheap glasses. I went six years without buying a new pair and your son couldn't make it even one? Yowsers!

Well he's 10. And a boy. :)

Timothy has the "FlexOn" ones and he broke them twice at the bridge in less than 2 months. Our eye Dr said that FlexOn has a guarantee that automatically replaces them for free if they break. We didn't have to pay for either of the new frames. Maybe you should ask if they are the name brand flexible ones.

Ours were a clearance pair of frames, since I paid out of pocket. :( But I plan to call the doc today to find out if they're under warranty. At least the new doc we went to this morning has one year warranties on the frames, which is all we'll need. Thaks for the tip on the Flex ons.:)

Clever has been wearing glasses since she was 2 1/2. We get a new pair every two years per our insurance. She's been really good with them and has only broken one pair and it really wasn't her fault. The one year warranty is key. Good luck!

I love the it's great to be me. I'm usually saying it sucks to be me so this is a nice change. Here's hoping the quick fix with the glasses works.

Yay! He's home from school and it seems the glasses worked well. And only two boys said they look like girl glasses. :)

Do you have those glasses places out there that will give you two pairs for $99? That's what I'd get him. Hey, if he likes those, you can get him several pair and change them out every month.

I haven't seen the Flea explanation. Why flea?

Thanks for playing. You know it's optional. :) And I wouldn't blame you if you didn't do mine since I didn't do yours.

Oh but Jan, this was fun! Thank you!

I don't know about the $99 deals, as I've gone to doctors on my insurance plan, but there are places online I can get a pair of glasses for less than $40 with a prescription. But it seems the cheap reading glasses do well.

As to how I got my name, you can read that story here: http://thegoodflea.blogspot.com/2007/11/how-flea-got-her-name-stop-me-if-youve.html
It's fun. :)
