Riddle Me This

My baby! My baby! I feel like Mrs. Jumbo, in Dumbo. But really, my baby!

My Little Guy is really sick this time. He's a hypochondriac to end all hypochondriacs. This is the kid who wanted to stay home because his temperature was dangerously close to 99. A couple of years ago he was dragging himself around the house by his arms, and when a friend asked him why, his response was, "My legs are loose." The same boy whom the nurse called about LAST Thursday because he felt sick. Whom the nurse calls about at least once a month. But he is always looking around and making cheerful conversation with the other children. This boy who knows no strangers, gives away everything he has, and loves animals, is the same boy who is always about to die.

This same boy was telling me, just this morning, that his stomach hurt and he felt like he was going to throw up. The same thing he told me yesterday morning. He was making every excuse not to go to school, I thought, but had no fever, and his color was good. And he ate breakfast. Which he neatly deposited in the aisle of the school bus a few minutes later. Can we say Bad Parent?

So now he's home. He claimed, at first, to be feeling better. I highly suspect that my perpetually runny nosed child just had a case of post nasal drip which had to
go somewhere - it's happened before. But he started feeling very poorly again when I asked him to clean his room. Poor baby.

I ask you: Does this boy look sick? Does he? I am just not sure. Does he look sick enough to be watching Star Wars IV: A New Hope for the millionth time? It's what he pops in any time he has the TV to himself. And remote control - does that say sick to you? I just can't tell. Help!

Until I write again ...

Flea

My philosophy is never argue when it comes to upchuck, but if he's watching Star Wars, he can't be all bad. :)

Yep, as Marguerite said, it's hard to argue with upchuck. It sounds like today he's in that in-between state where one isn't quite totally well and one isn't quite totally sick.

When I've handled kids of this age in the past, if I suspect that they're pretending to be sick, I put them to bed. No TV, only books. If they don't argue, they really are quite sick. If they do argue and do so strenuously (versus half-heartedly), they need to get their little rumps back to school.

LOL!! Alright, I think I've PARTLY been played. If he was just claiming to be sick, he'd have gone to bed. The upchucking was the deciding factor. And he sounds like an old man up there, hocking. It's gotta be post nasal drip. Thanks for the input!

Wow, you gotta hand it to him. All we ever did was warm our foreheads a bit-- this guy actually threw up to stay home and watch Star Wars! Give that boy a soda and saltine crackers and love on him (and smile through the movie like you mean it) ;-)

If he's puking he's sick!! Hopefully it's just a 24 hour thing and you will be childfree in your home tomorrow.

Mine gets the nasally drip upchuck occasionally too. BUT... with the flu going around, you can't be too careful.

I just got a memo from MG's school last week saying to "Keep your child(ren) at home if they have been throwing up the night before or the morning before school even if they do not have a fever."

I'd vote that he's sick with *something*.

Stink. Yeah. The flu's been going around something fierce here, but we've all escaped it so far. Maybe. Fortunately, there's no school tomorrow. Did I say fortunately?

Definitely fortunately, the TV is upstairs and I stay downstairs (TV and I don't get along well), so I didn't have to smile through Star Wars. :) I smiled through laundry and dishes!

Granny says coddle the kid a bit.
Someday he or your future daughter- in-law will be nice to you when you upchuck.

Mom? So glad that's you and not who I initially thought it was. I don't upchuck. That's Mike.:) I clean up after it really well, but someone else did that for me this morning.

I do, however, get migraines, so I'll coddle the boy in hopes he'll tip toe when I'm in pain.

Have you ever wondered if it's a male thing? Both my husband and son are major wimps. Parker did have the flu recently and had a high fever. When I went to get him up, he said "I can't walk. I already tried." Even though he's the boy that cried wolf, I panicked for one brief moment. Then I realized he just felt really bad and weak, but he could indeed walk.

My kids got to stay home if they threw up and I got to actually see it (yuck!), and if they had a temp! All other sicknesses got sent to school along with them. I know it's a cruel world out there. Now my oldest is a high school world cultures teacher and the kids make him sick. LOL!

He looks sick. And as a teacher, I seriously appreciate anyone who keeps a kid home after upchucking.

I think he needs some sprite with his Star Wars.

Y'all, I never send the kids to school within 12 hours of throwing up. Or 24 hours of a fever. Everything else goes to school. Okay, and if they're blowing green. You know what I mean. That's a trip to the doctor.

Barf = stay home. Always.

My Funny is the exact same way. He's the perfect "boy who cried wolf". He is NOT a morning person and wants me to take his temperature at least three days a week. After having the worst flu ever he said Monday morning that "I never want to feel like that again". Great. But he is who he is and he's back to whining about his invisible ailments. Oh well.

If he lost his contents on the bus, I'm going with at least 24 hours of caution.

But maybe chilling in bed instead of in the family room spreading potential germs!

It is so hard to tell with kids...they are such good actors! If my kids are sick I can usually tell by their eyes...

Have a good weekend!

My diagnosis is... sick!
Sorry you are stuck with Star Wars all day (if you listen to me that is).
ps. Good luck with the loose legs, I had that all the time as a child hehe!

LOL! Well, I used to fake sick all the time as a kid.

Shellie said...

I think he'll live. Let him watch Star Wars and he'll be good to go tomorrow on the room. Why not baby him for a day? If he managed to barf he deserves a break. I have a few hypochondriacs myself at home.

Hope little guy is feeling better today!

You know, I am overly empathetic having had the flu since Tuesday. I have lots of energy to watch TV, but loading and starting the dishwasher sends me to the bed for a nap! I hope he doesn't have a flu bug. It is NOT fun!

Ummm... did you know there's a Google Ad on your blog page that says

INSTANT KILL FLEA CONTROL

*gulp*

Just thought you should know.

INSTANT KILL FLEA CONTROL ROFL They really need a way you can censor the ads or atleast pick and choose from a few :)
As for Mr. Sick.... he does look sick, just kind of blah, but then that would be easily faked. Vomit on the other hand... atleast he did it on the bus and not at home :) I hope that was all there was too it and no flu bug for your family. We have already suffered through it ourselves.

See, that's okay. I'm not an instant Flea. I'm one of those slow acting Flea's, the kind that takes a while to really warm up and start working. So I'm safe. But thanks for y'all's concern!
