It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

We were awakened at 3 AM by the most horrific sound. Little Guy said it sounded like a tommy gun. I knew instantly that it was hail, but I'd never heard it so loud before, and it really seemed as though it was trying to break in through all of our back windows. The wind that came with it was pretty fierce. The Hunny and I ran out to see. Of course. No fear here - all wonder and delight for us. Of course, it's not light enough yet to see the roof ...

We opened our front door and were met with this sight:

Isn't it lovely? The Hunny ran to the corner of the porch cover to see his truck, which looks as good as new, except for a visor over a window having a chunk missing. I'm liking whatever it is they make vehicle bodies out of now. Plastic? It's great.

But look at all of the ice! Look how big it is! I'd seen hail that was pea size, even nickel size, but LOOK at this! Here's some up close and personal:

Huge, isn't it? Amazing. I still haven't seen Lou the Loud. Hoping he shows up before Little Guy misses him.

Ya'll be safe. Until I write again ...

I remember a hailstorm like that when I was in HS back in TX. The sound is just deafening!
Should have put out some glasses and brewed some tea!

That is some pretty big hail!!!! We often get hail. We had hail about a year ago or so that was softball sized - it was frightening. That hail in your hubby's hand is pretty large - could cause serious damage to cars and roofs - hope all is well.

Take care and nice to see you - Kellan

Lou came home this evening, no worse for wear. I was pretty worried, but it seems he rode it all out somewhere. He's pretty self sufficient, I guess. Had me fooled. :)

And the truck? Seems the roof has the same cute dimples I saw on vehicles all over town today. Everybody's got 'em!

We get a lot of hail here, mainly in the summer. (Colorado) We've had hail come down so hard and fast that there were several inches of it. Fortunately, it is not usually as big as what you have pictured. One time they showed on the news some golf ball sized hail from just east of here. That could kill ya!

There was one summer when I still lived at home in Colorado that saw baseball size hail balls. Trapped people on the sky lift at the amusement park and caused quite a few injuries and extensive car damage.

Fortunately for me, I didn't drive yet and wasn't at the amusement park on the sky lift. :)

Wow. That's amazing. It would totally tear up my shake roof so I'm glad it's not over here. How is your roof?

Come read about my great news on my blog!
