A Firm Foundation

I haven't even had lunch and already the day has been interesting.

The Hunny says to me before leaving for his conference, "I get paid Friday. Go buy yourself some new clothes and under things for you new job." Woohoo! Yes sir! Snap to it!

So I took Oatmeal Head for a haircut and Maybelline for her first pedicure, dropped them home and headed for an interesting place which the Hunny recommended I try, being so amply endowed and all (if you're a guy or a kid, please go away now). This little shop, next to a cute quilt shop and near the Starbucks, is called the Bust Stop. (I was gonna link it, but I don't trust that the people who were supposed to stop reading actually did)

Yeah. So I was prepared for it to be a little expensive, seeing as it deals strictly in undergarments and swimsuits. And it is. But then, I'm accustomed to shopping the sale racks (I said racks! tee hee!) at Lane Bryant. My favorite bras have all come from Lane Bryant. But having lost weight, I needed to be measured and fit. Which means trying on multiple pieces. Ugh. Especially when most of them didn't fit. It turns out that the weight loss translates to a smaller number, but a larger letter.

This little shop is adorable. Yes, they have some racy things there, but they specialize in prosthetics and hard to fit. I walked out with one bra and $125 poorer (I know, right?!). I think that's what we paid for the Hunny's last suit. But when I put my old foundation garment back on I was shocked at how poorly it fit in comparison to the new one. I plan to go back to Lane Bryant and try on some in my new size, compare fit.

Now that I'm home, I open bills. It is payday, after all. The water bill always includes fun city info, and this month's came with info on free CPR classes! Each Saturday in June, the park system offers free CPR to anyone who registers in time. So I signed up for myself, Maybelline and Oatmeal Head. They weren't wild about the idea, but Maybelline babysits, and you just never know with a teenage boy when he'll need to know CPR. I'm thinking maybe I should go back and register Little Guy, but he horses around a lot. We'll see.

So I'm looking forward to what the rest of the day brings! Or maybe I should just clean the house. Naaaahhhhh. I think I'll continue teaching myself to tat.

Until I write again ...

You meant $1.25, right? You just forgot the decimal? J/K Yay! on the new garment :) I hope the new size has a comparable fit at your regular store. Although it is great to splurge and get something that really fits and feels good and is not off the sale/clearance rack :)

$125 for ONE BRA!?? Good LORD! I go to Vicky's Secret - also a ripoff, but less so!

Oh how I love a good bra. And I have, like, none. Well they used to be good, about 10 years ago, but now they're just broken down and ragged. I've always heard of the Bust Stop and always threatened to go, but holy moly -- $125. Guess I'll still be goin' back to JCPenney. I thought I was wacky for spending $17 on a pair of pantyhose. Still -- enjoy the support. It must be fab.

I'm a hard to fit bra size and I always have to pay 100 or more for mine, it sucks but they are really good bras when you are spending that kind of money (I'm sure your girls will look wonderful :)
Now, do you think your husband will pay for mine because I need some nursing bras and I can only imagine how expensive they will be - ugh!

ACK! I go to Wal-Mart for bras. Which probably explains why I need to replace them every 2.3 weeks. Maybe I should just fork over the dough and get one that lasts.

Yowza! Is that thing gold plated? Dang. At that price it should do some housework for you!

Or conduct CPR!

FYI, I have gotten bras at the bust stop before and have spent $30 for one one time, but usually around $60 is what I pay for them there. I have tried on the ones that cost $100+, but have been lucky enough to find ones that fit in a lower price range.

My point is that you CAN find a bra there without three digits in the price. Everyone should go to a specialty bra place at least once to be measured and fit and then buy a really nice bra...they really are different than what you get at Wal-Mart. (although most of mine come from there these days too)

Good for you! I should probably do the same seeing as my post-baby, post-nursing bustline is a little um....different than it was pre-baby and I am proned to sale-racks, too. The only time I had a real fitting was while buying some things for our honeymoon and the sales associate just jumped right in the room with me, yanking on straps and tucking and tugging. Then she had the nerve to tell me that one was bigger than the other. I think it scarred me for a while...seeing that it was ten years ago!

Nothing improves a woman's outlook on life like a new, well fitted bra! And congrats on the weight loss.

Guys don't get undergarments. I have never spent more than $10.00 on a pkg of three at WalMart. Most of the time the wife buys what I need. Funny story.

That was very nice of him to do. The Bust Stop catchy name. I have never had that problem my self. I my self go to Victoria Secrets. And yes there prices are up there also.
But they have so many cute things there. I can spend hours just looking at everything. “Doing that wish shopping” …lol… I wish I was 36-24-36 …lol… Instead of 38-29-29 …lol… Man nature really plays a big game on you when you get older. Well congratulation on the weight loss and feeling better. And buying new things.
Thanks for stopping in at my side of the world.
Love your blog and enjoy reading always.
Enjoy your day.

I hate bra shopping! I hear ya about the price of the larger sized ones. The last one I bought was $50 and it sucked so bad that I don't wear it.

A bra for your...motorhome right?
$125.00 for what my kids would use as eyewear?! You go girl(s), you're worth it!!

And bravo on the classes-- everyone should take them--over and over and over. Oatmeal head is gonna thank you one day.

I refuse to pull out my puppies for ANYbody. I can just picture a salesgirl trying to measure them... lengthwise. Criminy. I am considering duct tape for the whole deal. Just strap 'em down and go, and it lasts several days. Hmmm... gives a new dimension to the term, "WalMart bra," if you get it in the hardware department.

I don't actually live in Tulsa anymore :( I lived in midtown (36th between Harvard and Yale) until last June. We moved to Kansas City to help out with hubby's ailing mother. She passed away March 28. We live with my fil to help him with bills and household stuff. Very long and complicated story for another day.

I need to get fitted...after nursing Cooper, they hardly seem fit for a training-bra, even!

but at least you've got one really good bra that fits you well and can build off of it with less expensive (but similar size) bras. never underestimate the undies!
