A Little of This ...

First night on the job. No one is up at night. Did you know that? No night owls allowed. And so far I'm just learning the routine, doing 30 minute room checks, filling and filing paperwork. Most of the job, right there. And staying awake.

Y'all know about my ironing addiction, right? This weekend my Hunny surprised me with the one thing I've asked for both Mother's Day and Christmas - a new
ironing board! Wanna see it? I know you do!

See it? It has nice legs. And the padding is evenly distributed, not all wonky. And it doesn't sound like it's dying every time I open and close it. And the cover isn't burnt all to heck. My old board was 17 years old, the pad and cover replaced twice, listing every time I'd use it. And this one is much higher, so my back doesn't hurt when I iron!

And last night, in the rain, Hunny and Little Guy were putting up siding. I took some pictures before the light was totally gone, meaning they're a little fuzzy. Sorry. But I wanted you to see what it looks like!

It's so nice to have the windows back! To have sunlight streaming into my kitchen and living room again! They finished the boards about ten o'clock, in the dark. See them here, about 8:30? They're working at the south kitchen window. They put one entire piece around that window, cutting the hole out of the cement board. They knocked over the potted plants and little critters in the window, too, what with all their banging.

Okay, now look behind them. See the tall plants near the back and fence? Here, I'll show you a little closer:

Anybody know what that is? We planted horseradish in the bed last summer, but the Hunny says he has no recollection of it ever looking like that, and I grew up in the deep south. No horseradish. Which is sad, because I've fallen madly in love with it as an adult. Mmmm. On kielbasa. In tuna salad. Egg salad. Mmm. But I guess this doesn't look like horseradish. Anyone?

I'm going back to bed. Thanks for all the encouragement, as well as for just hangin' in there with me.

Until I write again ...

Flea

TOG bought a new ironing board last year. I think I've used it twice. I despise ironing! I knew my opposite person had to be in the universe somewhere! At least we're tomato buddies!

Wait a minute. Did you just say you enjoyed ironing? When can I send you mine? I love to vacuum (sad, true) so I'll do THAT in exchange if you'd like. : )

No clue on the plants. My mother, bless her, could name any green thing on practically any continent, even tho she never made it out of the southeast in her whole life. She was just smart that way. I can name lettuce if it's in a labeled bag.

I was up with you last night. I was thinking of you, wondering what in the world you had to do, knowing everybody would be asleep. Glad you made it through the first night!!

Great ironing board - and I love the striped cover. You're always welcome to do my ironing if you ever run short.

I'm not good at the identify-a-plant game, but that looks like weeds that we grow around here. That's weedS, not weed.

My son worked some weird shifts at a call center and he said that whatever I do, do not go to WalMart after midnight. There be strange people doing strange things there in one of those 24 hour WalMarts. He said that about 50% of the people have on their pajamas. MUD

Great minds....I love to iron, too. And the board must be high as well. I really want to see some of your smocked things. Have you started an etsy shop? I only say this because my smock-worthy brats are not into the idea of my dressing them any longer. But there are plenty of babies out there who need a new tog....

Have I mentioned yet that I miss Fred and Bessie? *sigh.

Good luck with your first night. I used to work the night shift at a residential treatment centre and found that 2am is the hardest time. I would have to get on the computer because reading or tv would make me too sleepy (did you know it takes more brain cells to sleep than it does to watch tv).
The siding looks great, those men of yours are working hard!

I hate ironing. When I was a kid my mother used to make us iron everything, jeans, sheets, dish towels, etc. Every Saturday morning we would have a couple laundry baskets full of stuff that we had to iron. Yeah, I hate ironing now.

A new ironing board? Honey, you're aiming too low . . . you gotta aim for something like a vaccuum cleaner!

I LOATHE LOATHE LOATHE ironing. If it looks like I might have to iron it, I don't buy it.

I actually love ironing, too, which is why I won't ever do it. I don't want to NOT love it anymore. Does that make sense?

I had no idea you are an ironing addict! Me too!

Well, except I no longer do my own ironing, but I'm still very, very good at it. And I love to do it.

If you have time, read my post "The best thing that ever happened to me" about my adventures in ironing.

My dryer is my ironing system. Throw the wrinkled clothes in, let it spin a while, and voila! Wrinkles be gone! And if they're not, I don't wear it!

That plant looks suspiciously like ragweed to me...

I LOVE LOVE LOVE ironing too!
The smell , the crisp feel, the zen like state, the fabric...
LOVE IT!
Maybe it's a fabric lover / seamstress thing??

Your plant / weed looks like its in the Artemisia family... does its leaves smell herby or lemony when rubbed or cut??
I may be off base but Artichoke and horseradish i think are in the same family as artemisia.
