Please Don't Throw That Away

It's the saddest thing ever. You know what I'm talking about. When your kid comes to you with a toy and asks if they can throw it away? So sad.

Little Guy's eleven. And a boy. Meaning I shouldn't be too bent out of shape when he comes down with a bin of stuffed animals asking if he can sell them in a garage sale. Right? But so many of them are special, ya know? Like Louie Cat, the gift from his favorite aunt, and who looks like his Lou and the aunt's Lou cat. Or the big black bear he got in the Smokies. And Beauty, his little bean
ie seahorse from a happy meal when he was two.

Then there was this one, an Easter gift from several years ago:

Isn't he cute?

Okay, confession time. I have a thing for stuffed animals. Never a baby doll or Barbie person, really, but I LOVE stuffed animals. No, I don't buy them for myself. I'm very bad about buying them for my children for holidays. Or when they're really sick. Or when the critter's too cute to pass up. Oh, and one
Saturday in the fall a few years ago, I gave each child ten bucks and we hit every garage sale in town. I let them get whatever they wanted. We went home with a car full of stuffed animals.

So this particular little critter was too cute for me to let him toss. I'd fallen in love with it when I bought it for him, secretly wanting it for myself. Let me show you why:

*squeal* I love him! Look again!

Isn't he the best? No way is he being tossed. I mean, usually I take the stuffies and put them in my closet for six months. They magically reappear when I clean out the closet. If the kids wax poetic about how much they missed the critter, it goes back to their room. If they couldn't care less, it gets the toss. This one, however, will snuggle with my babies in the rocker in my room.

Just thought I'd share. :)

Until I write again ...

He's adorable. Stuffed animals are hard to detatch from. You're a smart mom to take the wait and see attitude before pitching them!

I was never able to throw the stuffed animals away either. I still have all of them in big baskets out in the storage shed, lol.

Geeze, I just got rid of their pre-school artwork last month. I'm taking baby steps here. Just baby steps.

Doesn't this normally work the other way, Flea? : ) It's funny that the kiddos are trying to get you to throw out the toys. Love the post. Sorry about the BBR blog, but I hope you stay connected with us on our individual blogs.

I wouldn't be able to part with him either! Then again, we are being over ran with stuffed animals at our house, so maybe I should bring myself to part with a few. My Wild Child loves stuffed animals. Her favorites are a rat, a weasel and Stitch. I wonder if I should be concerned.

I still mourn somehow losing the Stieff the bear my Dad brought home from Italy for me before I was even born. :sniff:

Ellyn still sleeps with the raccoon my folks gave her when she was 1 [okay, it is on her night stand]. Mark treasures the bear we gave him when he was 1 and I hope he always will. We just gave Anna her own "best" bear and I hope she loves it forever.

You keep that little bear-in-a-duck-suit; you will have grandbabies someday!

AWWWW! So cute!! I, too, love stuffies. When I took my first trip to NY 8 years ago, the only place I cared about going was FAO Schwartz. I had to buy an extra carry-on to get my new babies home. In fact, when my house was burglarized years ago, my greatest sorrow was the loss of a Gund tiger I'd had as a baby.

Someday I will put a shelf up to display all the toys the kids outgrew but I haven't.

How could you throw such a sweet little thing out!
Ps. LOVE the Ws, have I ever mentioned how lucky I think you are that your hunny is in the kitchen doing stuff other than eating!

Aw! I am getting pretty ruthless and throwing out stuffies that I think are not needed. but I do have a whole bin downstairs of special ones I have kept. for me. some were mine when I was small!

Has your mother ever mentioned giving up a daughter back in... well never mind when, were we separated at birth? I have waaaaay too many tales of holding onto things the kids want to let go of.
He IS adorable. Does he want to travel to England?
