No, seriously, school starts next week. I enrolled Maybelline in Freshman Academy today. Tomorrow will be Oatmeal Head's turn with 8th grade. And next Thursday they go back to school! Yay!!!
Now, to talk about food. Of sorts. Y'all have seen my tomatoes. I gave away another bag tonight, ones I picked this evening. Stupid maters. Like AsthmaGirl, I get queasy. Ew. But we grow them. And I did blanch, peel, seed and puree the bowl full I showed y'all. Then froze them for the winter when I need sauce. Too busy to use them now.
But today I'm combining Back/Front Yard Meme with a look at the tomatoes. I thought I'd start with a shot of the tomato plants from last month, then show you what they looked like today. Last month?
I know. They're little and far away. It's what I have. Trust me that they were green a month ago. Then today:

Sad, huh? But they're turning out good tomatoes. I just have to make sure I pick them every day, and that I pick them just before they're ripe, or they split and the bugs attack. Poor things.
And you should see what's growing in my compost pile! I'll try and snap that tomorrow. There are softball size cantaloupes growing all OVER the compost. Way cool.

I don't envy the hailstorms, tornados and snow that part of the country gets (if I'm remembering correctly), but I do envy you that gigantic yard! Holy cow, a person could do almost anything with a yard that big!
Noble Pig i sposting recipes for maters go check it out. I love em, can just eat em by the handfuls. Don't apologize for your plants. Last year I had a tomato plant that was 6 foot high and 6 foot wide. It was a mass of green foliage incredible looking; nary a mater, no not one. It was a freak! I have found that the narliest lookin plants make the best maters.
EW. Tomatoes. Er..I mean..YUM. Such beautiful fruit! Yeah..that's it.

I love your garden. I love how you have it separated. Is it separated for the prettiness or so your plants grow better. I don't know if I have a green thumb. I'm a garden virgin. I have never planted anything really, but plan to next year-Since I will be in the 'country' by then....lol.
Any suggestions??

Things could be different in Ooooooooooooooooooooooklahoma, but here in NY I would say yer 'maters got themselves a blight. Blights is bad, but you can spray em and hold em off long enough to git the 'maters ripe. We get some stuff from Garden's Alive - not spensive and it even breaks down into a fertilizin kinda thang. Anyways, that's whut Ima thinkin. :)

Oh, honey. My mom wouldn't let them get red. Fried 'em up green. Dad planted two whole extra plants, just so's mom could have her green, and he could wait patiently for the red.
One of the families at church grew and shared 'maters this year. I still have a little one in the fridge. Yummy!
