Ummm ... Yeah
About that smocking thing. Umm. I ummm ... well ... It's like this, see. I took the little dress to work on Saturday night. Did I tell you that it's for a three month old? One of the nurses at work is having a granddaughter in November and wants to learn to smock. I told her I'd make the dress (insert excited puppy-like Flea here), while teaching her to smock, and that she could make the bonnet to go with. Cute, cute, cute, right? And I figured it would be fun to show y'all what I was doing at the same time. So Saturday night I'm at work, it's midnight-ish, all the girls are asleep and my filing is done. I haven't gotten out my laptop yet and I thought, "I know! I'll start on that dress!" So I did. And when the nurse arrived in the morning (the grandmother-to-be is the weekend day shift nurse), I had a nice little bit of it done. Sunday night I did the same thing, feeling ambitious and bored. I also thought to myself (I needed to clarify because sometimes I think to other people - what, you didn't know I'm telepathic?), "Self, you need more smocking projects. This is fun!" BTW - I have a call in to the Labor and Delivery person at the hospital I work for. I'd like to smock more gowns for tiny stillborn babies. The POINT is, I was restless and kept my hands busy. So instead of getting pictures of the needle going into the fabric for the first time, or even halfway through the project, I took pictures of THIS on Monday morning when I arrived home from work:

Can you believe it? I still want to show y'all the blocking pictures, but they can keep till the weekend. And I have another, really fun project I'd like to let y'all in on. In fact, I sent Karen, at the Rocking Pony, the pattern, so I thought it would be fun to actually make one for y'all to see. It's a pillowcase dress. Don't get your panties in a bunch - it's not that sack dress that everyone's making and selling on Ebay and calling a pillowcase dress. You'll see.
So I apologize. I still have to make the bullion roses, but I'll probably do those this Saturday night. What? It will keep me from falling asleep.

wow flea, this is amazing!! You've said you smocked, but I really had no idea what that entailed. It's beautiful, and the gowns for stillborn babies -- you're such a creative sensitive soul!
Beautiful work flea! I can follow a pattern for crochet, but can't sew worth a flip.
Making those for still born babies would be a wonderful release. I remember you asking me about preemie clothes and such a long time ago when I mentioned I was painting bereavement boxes for the local hospital to give to families who lost a baby - but I am no longer doing that as I am no longer involved with the grp I was working with. I no longer go to that church, but am still crocheting and working on little hats to give to them. Trying to get a bunch made before I take them.

Oh that's beautiful! My aunt made a little dress for Grace that was smocked--and a matching bonnet--and it's the dress I had her picture taken in and that I saved. It was just too beautiful to pass on.
By the way, this header is my favorite so far!

And I think it would be an utterly gorgeous thing for you to do for stillborn babies, thank you so much. I still hold the teensy knit hat that my stillborn baby girl wore in the hospital and smell it and rub it against my cheek, remembering.
That almost makes me want to have another little girl. I said almost, so don't get excited LOL. I love the idea to make them for the stillborn babies. It would be beautiful and surely appreciated at such a sad time.

That is so beautiful! Thank you for what you are doing for stillborn babies and also thank you for not using the politically correct term of "Fetal Demise" That is so cold. You can probably give one or two and they can dress them for the photo. You are quite the ARTISTE and not everybody can just do that!
BTW, how far away are you? Maybe I should apply for a job where you work. I'm crazy, I'd fit right in.

That's beautiful and what a kind caring thing to do! We lost one about 5 years ago and it's a really hard thing to go through, I know the parents will greatly appreciate it.
