A Beauty to Behold

Ladies, do you remember the first time you wore a formal gown? The first time you thought you looked stunning? Like a princess? I relived it last night. Maybelline is in vocal at school and their dress this year is not the polo and khakis of middle school. Oh no. It's a black evening gown and heels.

I grumbled about shelling out money for a fancy dress for a 15 year old, but the look on her face last night was truly priceless. Let yourself go back in time, will you? I'll share pictures.

The top of the gown is black velvet, the bottom satin, and yes, that's a string of crystal at the empire waist. Catches the light on stage beautifully.

See? But Maybelline outshone them all. She was excited to be dressed to the nines and performing at her best. Hunny told her afterward that she was the best one in her row. She's a first soprano, whatever that means. I'd always thought she had a throatier, earthier singing voice, but okay. She practices non-stop. Just ask her biology teacher. She practices at the expense of all other homework.

But that's the face of a happy girl. One who knows she's beautiful. Life is good, people. Life is good.

Until I write again ...

What a moment to remember. She looks so grown up and beautiful. I'm betting her brothers even took notice.

That is wonderful, she looks so elegant! That England woman she knows (that likes Kat. Melua) was a first soprano. She's more of a frog in a bucket now...

Gorgeous, Maybelline, keep stunning them!

How beautiful! I'm so proud of her. She's growing up. I remember when she was like 8 or 9 years old! Singing Christmas carols around the neighborhood. Love you, Maybelline!

Precious! Beautiful! So glad you paused to soak up the moment and store it in your heart for pondering the rest of your life. First sopranos ROCK! (Okay, I'm biased . . . but that doesn't mean it isn't true). ; )
