It's That Time of Year

Mmm! It's that time of year again! Time to be a slight bit chilly, wanting to warm up in the evenings with a warm bowl of stew, a snuggly blanket and slippers and a good book. Then slip under the feather comforter with my Hunny and stay toasty warm all night. Yes, fall is here. Hoorah!

With that in mind, and thinking of the wood smoke I'll smell every time I let the dogs out this evening (I love the smell of wood smoke!), I thought long and hard this morning about tonight's dinner. Oh alright. I opened the freezer to see what I had to last me till Friday and pay day. Ground beef and ground turkey. Hmm. What to make, what to make? Think, think, think.

If you know me in real life, you know that this is probably a no brainer this time of year. Ground meat nearly always means chili! And since I'm short on time today, I just wanted to drop in a couple of photos of tonight's dinner, maybe inspire you to make some yourself.

Doesn't that look scrumptious? It sure smells really good. Serve it over corn chips, topped with shredded cheese and sour cream - my kids eat tomatoes and beans this way, no problem. Yum!

That? Oh, that's the fat. Gross, huh? I browned the meat with onions (from my garden!) and garlic, then drained it some good. Once it cools I'll give it to the dogs. If they'll eat it. They're a little finicky when I've browned the meat with onions and garlic.

Go! Dig out your favorite chili recipe! Head to the store for some corn chips and cheese. Surprise your family with something warm and delicious this week!

Until I write again ...

o I forgot to tell you onions and garlic are supposed to not be good for dogs and cats, maybe that is why they say what the heck!

Looks yummy! What time is dinner? :) The RS is out of town so we will probably be having pancakes for dinner. It's the kids favorite.

Oh, I just had some the other day, I love me some good chili!
I use buffalo or elk though so I don't have to drain the fat (I would always pour it down the drain and then M was mad at me). I think your dogs may be the only dogs in the world who are picky about meat fat haha!
ps. Chicken is a lobster!!

Chili with jalapeno bread last week, brisket with cornbread and potato salad this week. Great minds think alike?

Chili is one of my favorite standbys. But one of ours absolutely hates it so he gets to make himself PB&J on chili nights.

I have been eating Chili for the last three days, leftovers from our party.

And you know what? It tastes better and better each day. I heart the fall too. And comfort food. :)

Snap! I made a chili last night. The garlic (and turmeric that I add) are supposed to help ward off winter viruses.

I had a neighbour who fed their dog garlic capsules every day - kept the fleas off.

Yum - that looks fantastic.

I'm happy to say that chili finally looks fantastic again ... last winter we had a nasty bout of the stomach flu after eating some delicious homemade chili. But now I think I'm ready for chili again!

Yikes that was a lot of fat! Your chili looks yummy, though I am not a chili gal. Half my house loves it, half hates it. It doesn't get made very often.
