I have a big post inside, bursting to get out, but am not awake enough to let it out. I didn't sleep this weekend. Really. Ugly headache keeping me awake. So today I slept about 9 hours. Felt so goooood. Well, there was the interruption, about two hours in, when a muscle in my shin spasmed and woke me. It was like a charley horse (I always think of the stupid video below when I say 'charley horse'), but in a shin muscle, running all the way down to my toes. Lifted my last two toes and I couldn't walk it off. In fact, I was quite a baby about it, yelling and moaning. The Hunny, who had the day off, brought me a banana and some water. After about 10 minutes it went away, but it was the weirdest thing ever. Happened in my other leg about 10 minutes later.
Let me show you what I did this weekend, in the wee hours of the night, when all good girls sleep and psychiatric techs are required to be awake. (I've just gotten the camera back from the Hunny, who camped with friends this weekend, or I'd have showed you pictures of the Monkey Bread this weekend. Sorry Noble Pig)
This one is nearly done. Just the buttons and the hem and it can be shipped east, to a friend whose Toddler is waiting for it. Can you just see it with a white blouse with a Peter Pan collar? Or a yellow turtleneck? With tights? Here's the back:
The sash is one of my favorite touches on a little girl's dress. It just makes it! But the print on this ... words fail me. I'm not a big fan of this type of print for smocking. But I just had to get this one. We'll see how the girl likes it. Cross your fingers, will ya?
I started another dress for a different friend. Really, I'm partial to solid colors and cotton batiste. But this print yelled at me to take it home. Here's hoping it turns out well.
Purple is always a fun color, huh?
If you'll excuse me, I've been up all of about an hour and the family is asking about dinner. Maybe I'll make eggs and pancakes, seeing as it's my breakfast time.
Until I write again ...
I'm still amazed by smocking. I think I'm a fan of solid colors myself.
Um, we need to talk. These dresses go for the HUNDREDS here. Like I say....and yes, a peter pan collar...maybe piped and with a monogram. The southerner comes out in me at the oddest times....
Hush Mental P!!
ok, she's right....
They're gorgeous-you are so talented, there are some lucky little girls out there!!
welcome back camera (never never let the camera go away) and I really hope you're feeling better soon :-)
love the dresses and I hope the charley horses leave you alone!
Beautiful! You're going to make some people very happy.
And yes, I'm with mental p mama - if you ever need some extra pocket change, you could probably sell your creations at a boutique. On the other hand, it's nice to do some things for love rather than money.
I so wish. I've tried and tried, but the boutiques don't seem to buy it, and they don't sell for quite what they're worth. My best success has been with individual commissions. I do that sporadically. It's just not as much fun.
(in the voices of the crack smoking unicorns)Char-lie that is almost 4 minutes of my life I will never get back, Char-lie. To be thinking about that and having a charlie horse is worthy of a super hero nomination in my book.
The smocking is incredible!! So I have a question that will probably be deserving of a sewing class 102 but, does smocking have to be done on cotton or can it be done on other fabrics? Truth be told, it will be a while before I start smocking since I am still learning how to hem my daughters pants.
Oh, Flea..such gorgeous work. You do truly have a gift.
So cute. I love the purple one.
You don't have to explain yourself to me. Remember I'm a Napolian Dyanamite fan.
You have some mad skillz, wumman. WOW!
Man the little girls in your life are lucky!!
Also, that shin thing sounds weird. Maybe tlak to your doc? Hope you are feeling better!
The dresses are beautiful. I am in awe of ANY sewing, since I don't do more than buttons. But you really have some talent!
And, by the way, that video was the only thing MORE painful than a charlie horse!
I HATE HATE HATE those leg cramps. I remember I used to always get them swimming when I was a kid.
Cute dresses - the smocking reminds me of all the stuff my mom dressed me in when I was a tot!
