The Eggs!

Today's the last day to enter the Devil's Cape giveaway! If you haven't entered, go leave a comment here NOW! It's a great book!

No no no! People! I am NOT crafty! I'm not I'm not I'm not!!! What I do is ... um ... not a craft. Really. Alright, the smocking is not crafty. It's a finely tuned skill. The eggs are ... um ... somewhat crafty. More artistic, really.

I chafe at the word crafty. I do. Hate being thought of as a crafty person. If you saw my house, you'd know I'm so NOT crafty. Wait, y'all have seen my house.
But crafty people make things which aren't practical. They make things which look - like things other people make. Me? Not so much. Maybe I'm just delusional.

Here. Look at the eggs, what I've done with them. They're mine.

And here's another:

So what did I do? Once the eggs were dry, I used a mechanical pencil to scribble on the little cartoons, then colored them in with Oatmeal Head's colored pencils - I think they're - not Pentium. That's in computers. Some kind of fancy colored pencils. Some of the eggs I painted with a watery acrylic paint concoction after penciling in the image. Some I did not.

On the backs of the egg I wrote "2008" with a metallic calligraphy pen. I keep one handy at all times. I love a good metallic paint pen. I then outlined the numbers with my ultra fine point Sharpie. Same one I used to outline the little cartoons.

After the coloring was done, I squirted a little Mod Podge onto a plate and brushed it all over the egg with a little paintbrush, then quickly wrapped a piece of ribbon around the egg and tied it at the top. This covers the holes and makes for good hanging. The Mod Podge protects the egg and gives it a shiny surface, which I like. Just be prepared to place the eggs somewhere to dry that they won't stick to the surface. I don't recommend the carton. They'll pull away styrofoam. I managed to lay the eggs on their sides on the ribbon, so he glue didn't touch the flat surfaces. Tricky.

And that was it, other than letting them dry. I love these eggs. They're a project. They make fun gifts. I get to be artistic and copy other people's images. It's all good. Go forth and make your own Christmas ornaments. Here's one more, another of my favorites:

Until I write again ...

Oh, you're crafty alright. Reeeeaaaaal crafty. It's just in that kind of sneaky, shifty eyed, sneak-around-in-the-middle-of-the-night-and-rearrange-someone's-livingroom kind of way. Crafty, crafty Flea.
OK, now I have the most hilarious image of you actually sneaking around at midnight, rearranging someone's livingroom...Flea the Masked Arranger!

OK, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the eggs! If only I could DRAW!! But, alas, I can't. *sob*

HAHA! KarateMom, you just reminded me of one time she and a friend closed our bedroom door and wouldn't let anyone in. We heard lots of noise and when they came out, the room was totally REARRANGED! LOL! :D

Flea, those eggs are really cool! I had forgotten you could draw like that! :)

I'm lovin' the Grinch egg. Totally.

However, I would be terrified--constantly--of breaking them. Between the boys and the dogs....

*sigh*

I really don't get to have pretty things.

If you're not crafty, then you're very, very talented. Your mom passed down to you her wonderful skill of drawing.

I'd be so worried of cracking the eggs. Great job to you and the Evil one.

These eggs are fantastic. You are very artsy, ie: not crafty. I would love to create some of these but alas, I am NOT artsy!!

I loved this and the previous post. You've done great things with what would normally be a waste (or compost) object.

It makes me wonder, though, if there's some easier way to blow out those eggs. Maybe adapting one of those little hand pumps used to blow up balloons?
