I was told to expect a great movie. What I didn't expect was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It's Pixar and 3D. The story is phenomenal. I had no idea what the film was about. I was only told by others to bring a box of tissue. Surprisingly, my Hunny and Oatmeal Head are the only ones who needed them.
I don't want to give the plot way, especially since not knowing anything about it going in was very beneficial, but I will pop in the trailer for you:
The 3D is extrememly impressive. I particularly love the shots of the night sky, the stars popping out just like in real life. There are so many times I had to remind myself that it's all computer animated.
Maybe the best part of the film was afterward in the lobby. There were a couple of gently seasoned ladies there, maybe old enough to be great-grandmothers to my youngest child. They were a stitch to listen to throughout the film, but one was sitting in the lobby after, marveling over the film quality, as well as the story line, quite pleased that it wasn't just a children's movie. We talked for quite a while. I wanted to take her home.
Don't believe for a minute that this was a simple sad story. I laughed and laughed all the way through. The dogs - OMG - the dogs are SO perfect. All dogs are ADHD, but when they can speak English? SQUIRREL! Priceless.
If you have children, this is a must-see. If you don't have children, this is still a must-see. Worth even the cost of an evening ticket AND a large popcorn. Really. Do yourself a favor and see this one on the big screen while you can.
Until I write again ...

I loved it, too!
Great to hear. Emily and I are heading to see it at the drive in Sunday night. Probably will miss all the 3D fun stuff....
So would it be good for a SUPER sensitive 4 year old? Tale of Desperaux was a bit too mean for her... so i want to bring her to the drive in to see it...
DH and I saw it in a theater full of kids. What a Hoot! I, too, was amazed at what how far Pixar has come since Toy Story. The old guy's whiskers even grew during the passing of time. I want to own this one. SQUIRREL!
yep just what the doctor ordered.
I was not impressed with the 3D, but I would recommend the movie to anyone. We loved it!
Thanks for the review! I know nothing about "Up", but I love Toy Story 1 & 2. Will watch for "Up" to come out on rental. Have a great weekend!
I wonder if the rental will be in 3d, and if so, will it come with glasses? This is not one to wait for, IMO. The in-theater 3D is WOND.DER.FUL, if for no other reason than it's not gimmicky. Nothing's really jumping out at you or anything like that...it just makes the movie... well... real. Loved, loved, LOVED it. Laughed, cried like a baby, laughed some more. Cried some more.
I've been looking forward to this movie. It sounds as though it will be touching.
I love animation and I am looking forward to this... tho I know the only big screen I see it on will be the one in our living room ... ga' bless NetFlix
I just heard a very enthusiastic review on the Christian radio station yesterday - put it on the list as a must see!
We saw it yesterday and LOVED it, I need a dog.
